For those looking for something a bit more straightforward than the Climbers Traverse, theres always the Three Tarns approach. Once on it however, it's a lot more protected than you'd expect. Litter tends to breed litter, so if you do spot any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the park, it will go a long way to keeping the area clean. The line of Jacks Rake was visible, and it always looks intimidating from a distance. To carry on, stay on the same side of the river and follow the path up to the quarry road. Once back down at the tarn, we started the journey back to Langdale and followed the course of Stickle Ghyll through some quite astoundingly beautiful landscape. This lower level walk is too good to be a rainy day plan b, with sections of the Cumbrian Way, Blea Tarn and ever changing views providing sustained interest. The walk between the two car parks is quite nice. It is generally sheep country rather than farmyards and cattle pastures found on much of the first section. The tables offer breathtaking views. The descent back to the start is along a steep and rough path past the waterfalls of Dungeon Ghyll Force where concentration and care with footing are needed.
